Sunday Sun and Mail on Sunday

The Sunday Sun yesterday (23 June 2013) had a great money saving piece for holiday-goers which included buying car hire excess insurance from iCarhireinsurance.com

Travel editor, Lisa Minot, said: “Excess Insurance – if you have an accident you will pay the first £300 to £1000 of the cost of any damage. Car rental companies will hard sell you a policy to reduce this to nil for up to £25 a day. Take out a policy before you go with iCarhireinsurance.com”.

Thanks Lisa.

Similarly the Mail on Sunday also said, “Buy your own excess waiver”, and NOT from the car hire company.

It too, recommends iCarhireinsurance.com and also gives another excellent reason to buy a policy. “Another attraction,” it said, “is that these stand-alone plans…provide cover that is often excluded from hire firm plans, such as damage to tyres, windows and undercarriage.”

The Scotsman – Traveller’s checks: Top saving tips for your holiday

Jeff Salway writes about top saving tips for your holiday and says

“Car rental costs can vary hugely between country and supplier, making it essential to shop around. Analysis by iCarhireinsurance.com of costs in some of Europe’s most holiday destinations found that in the first week of the Scottish school holidays, families could pay double the amount they need if they choose the wrong option.

For example, the cost of hiring a car for a week in Tenerife ranges between £89 with Budget and £129 with Sixt. Hiring an Astra with Sixt in Faro will set you back more than £470, more than twice the cost of the same car in the same place with Hertz. The extras can vary significantly too, particularly adding extra drivers or renting a child’s car seat.”
